ARCH TOP

MEASURING – INSIDE MOUNT

First, measure the base width inside the arch opening.

Then measure the height at the middle (tallest) point inside of the arch opening.

Other suggestions:

Keep in mind that if you are ordering an arch, the height of your arch must be half the width. You will have a perfect semi-circle. If your window arch is not perfect, please call us to discuss your options (416-721-1002).

DRAPERY

1. Select Panel Quantity

  • All Trendy Blinds Drapery Pricing is Per-Panel.
- Two (2) Panels will make a complete pair.

2. Select Finished Length

Note: We recommend installing the hardware 8″ above the window opening.

Grommet Panels:
  • Measure from the top of the pole to the floor.
  • Add 1-1/2″ to this measurement for Grommet Placement.
  • Add additional length for Puddling if desired. (See Puddling Guide below)
Flat Panels &
Pleated Panels:
  • Measure from the bottom of the drapery ring to the floor.
  • Add additional length for Puddling if desired. (See Puddling Guide below)

3. Select Finished Width

  • Measure the width of your window from outside edge of window frame to the other side outside edge of window frame (FFW – frame-to-frame Width).
  • Add between 16″ to 24” (A) to this dimension– wider additions for wider windows. (This makes your window appear larger, and allows more glass to be exposed when opened to provide you with a better view outside.)
  • Per-Panel width (PPW) = (FFW+A) / 2.

Puddling Guide – If you prefer for your drapes to Puddle here are some general guidelines:

Minimal Puddle – Small break in the fabric where it meets the floor.
Add 1” – 3” to your length
Moderate Puddle – More dramatic break with some fabric resting on the floor.
Add 3” – 6” to your length
Opulent Puddle – Generous amount of fabric pooling on the floor.
Add 6” – 8” to your length

FABRIC VALANCE

1. Determine Valance Width
Allow a minimum clearance of 1” each side of whatever the valance is mounted over plus an additional width to accommodate any brackets or operating cords of existing window coverings (blinds or drapes) on the window.

2. Determine Valance Height
Height is mostly determined by the scale of the window or the undertreatment (i.e. drapes or blinds) covering the window. Generally, allow 15% to 18% of the height of the undertreatment, or the distance from the top of the valance to the floor.

3. Determine Valance Return Size
Valance Return Size is determined by the projection of the undertreatment to make sure it won’t interfere with the operation of the covering. The chart below gives minimum return requirements for most situations.

UNDERTREATMENT VALANCE RETURN
Window with no undertreatment or
Window with inside mount undertreatment
1-1/2” return
1” mini-blind 2-1/2”
2” mini-blind 3-1/2”
3-1/2” vertical blind 5-1/2”
Honeycomb shade 2-1/2”
Honeycomb shade, double cell 3-1/2”
Single-layer drapery 5-1/2”

Inside Mount Instructions

MEASURING – INSIDE MOUNT

  • Use a steel measuring tape.
  • Measure window opening size WIDTH in three places: Top, Middle, Bottom. The smallest width will be used.  Provide measurements in inches rounded to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.
  • Measure window opening size HEIGHT in three places: Left, Middle, Right. The longest height will be used.  Provide measurements in inches rounded to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.
  • For inside mount – Take the ACTUAL WINDOW OPENING SIZE and subtract approximately 1/4 of an inch of the window width to fit into that opening.
  • Measure window DEPTH of flat surface for mounting the blind or shade. We recommend min. depth 2 inches or more in order to fit to inside mount.
  • Check any additional details such as protruding handles, window direction and determine your cord position.
  • DOUBLE-CHECK all measurements.

Outside Mount Instructions

MEASURING – OUTSIDE MOUNT

  • Use a steel measuring tape.
  • Measure window opening size WIDTH in three places: Top, Middle, Bottom. The smallest width will be used.  Provide measurements in inches rounded to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.
  • Measure window opening size HEIGHT in three places: Left, Middle, Right. The longest height will be used.  Provide measurements in inches rounded to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.
  • For outside mount, Add 1 to 2 inches extra for the width and 4 inches (Cassette size 3” + Bottom bar 1”) for the length to cover your window frame.
  • Check any additional details such as protruding handles, window direction and determine your cord position.
  • DOUBLE-CHECK all measurements.
